Senior Writer

Stan Crock has more than 40 years of writing experience, including three decades as a journalist for major news outlets, more than a decade of proposal writing, and marketing and communications experience. He has written for such outlets as Business Week, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The New York Times, The Associated Press, The New Republic, Investopedia,, and He has worked on proposals for Accenture, McKinsey, IBM, Abt Global, and other firms. Crock has worked in marketing and media relations for Abt since 2018.

Crock currently covers a wide variety of topics: infectious disease, including COVID-19; non-communicable diseases; behavioral health; workforce development; criminal justice; agriculture and nutrition; and technical assistance and implementation. His writing includes multimedia projects, project briefs and summaries of reports and peer-reviewed journal articles for the Abt website. Crock ghost-writes and edits op-eds and blogs for colleagues. In his media relations role, he works with reporters to connect them with Abt’s experts and data that could be helpful for stories. Crock also provides writing training for Abt colleagues on a regular basis.

Before coming to Abt, Crock was the founder and principal of Pinnacle Writing Services (PWS), where he provided proposal writing and editing and general writing services for such clients as Accenture and IBM. While running PWS, he was a columnist for and then Prior to that, he was senior communications specialist and led proposal work at McKinsey. Before McKinsey, he was senior editorial director for Accenture, where he created and managed a proposal team for Accenture’s federal work. He came to Accenture from Business Week, where he had spent 23 years, first as news editor and then as chief diplomatic correspondent. He also worked as a reporter for The Wall Street Journal, The Palm Beach (FL) Post, and The Associated Press. After law school, he clerked for the Hon. Gus J. Solomon, a federal district judge in Portland OR.
