Expanding Our Impact

As an emerging international economic market in Latin America, Brazil has become a chief partner in international development efforts. At the domestic level, however, the Brazilian population is at a high risk for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Abt worked through the HealthRise program to empower Brazilian patients—particularly those in underserved communities—to seek screening and treatment. The program evaluation showed statistically significant declines in patients’ blood pressure and blood glucose levels, and local governments have committed their own resources to sustain the program’s interventions.
