Expanding Our Impact

As an emerging democracy within an unstable region, Niger, despite a growing economy, faces issues in reproductive health, infectious disease and trade infrastructure. Abt led the AWARE-RH project that worked to develop and disseminate health sector reform models, increasing reproductive health services. Ongoing Abt projects help reduce the prevalence of malaria, which accounts for half of all national deaths. The Agribusiness and Trade Promotion (ATP) project improved the value of livestock trading in West Africa, increasing the value of exported onions from Niger by 45 percent. Working through the USAID-funded CEADIR project, Abt has also worked with Nigerien banks and other financial stakeholders and prepared banks to access a $7 million credit line and a multi-million dollar regional facility.
