Our Mission Impact Measurement Approach

Abt is a mission-driven organization focused onimproving the quality of life and economic well-being of people worldwide. To advance that mission, we measure the changes our work helps create.

We define Abt Mission Impact as changes--for people, organizations, systems, and the environment--that advance our Mission.

Our approach focuses on outcomes that are intentional, meaningful, and lasting. It draws on established impact measurement practices and reflects input from practitioners, clients, and partners around the world, including the Impact Management Project’s Community of Practice.

This framework helps us understand and measure the changes our work contributes to by answering key questions.

We recognize that impact is complex. The pathways to mission impact are interconnected and shaped by changing local and global conditions. At Abt, we use a systems perspective to understand these dynamics and identify when, how, and under what conditions our work makes a difference.

We also recognize that people and communities experience impact differently. Our goal is to create outcomes that matter to our clients and those they serve. That commitment shapes how we work, how we engage with communities, and how we operate as a company.

We advance our mission through three pathways:

  • Our Work—the services and solutions we deliver for our clients
  • Our People and Operations—how we run our company
  • Our Communities—how we engage in the places where we live and work

Across these pathways, we translate our mission into goals that help us track and understand our impact:

  • Good Health
  • Secure Economies
  • Thriving Environment

Our 2026 Mission Impact Report draws on results from several reporting periods, depending on the topic. These include the 2025 calendar year, Abt's 2026 fiscal year (April 2025 to March 2026), and our clients' fiscal years. For selected project examples in Our Work, we may also report cumulative results that span multiple years when doing so provides a more complete picture of progress. We note all relevant reporting periods throughout the report.
