Abt Global Tops 50 Private Sector/Consultancies Rated in Global Health 50/50 2019 Report, Expands Focus on Gender Equality & Social Inclusion

Endorses Minimum Standards for Mainstreaming Gender Equality

Rockville, Md. – Abt Global leads the list of 50 private-sector companies and consultancies rated in the Global Health 50/50 2019 report released March 7, tied with Unilever for first place.

The Global Health 50/50 2019 rated 198 organizations on performance across 10 domains, including commitment to gender equality, senior management parity, gender of executive and programmatic gender strategy.

Abt recently expanded its focus on Gender Equality & Social Inclusion, which includes programs on empowering women and girls, ending gender-based violence, promoting social inclusion and engaging men to advance rights for everyone.  The company has also formally adopted the Minimum Standards for Mainstreaming Gender Equality.

“Abt Global always has been committed to ensuring that women have equal opportunities for success,” said President and CEO Kathleen Flanagan, who joined the company 36 years ago as a junior analyst.  "As we observe International Women's Day, we have much to be proud of in terms of our progress in gender equality.”

“Our scores in the just-released Global Health 50/50 2019 report and our endorsement of the Minimum Standards for Mainstreaming Gender Equality demonstrate our continued efforts in this area,” she added.

This is the second report by Global Health 50/50, an initiative created to advance accountability and action for gender equality in global health.  The organizations rated in the study include bilateral and multilateral development institutions, philanthropic organizations, NGOs and the private sector.  The initiative is sponsored by the University College London Centre for Gender and Global Health.

The eight standards for mainstreaming gender equality were developed by the Gender Practitioners Collaborative—a group of gender experts from international development organizations—to promote gender equality within endorsing organizations and their programs.  The standards range from adopting a gender equality policy to conducting gender analyses for every project and developing an organizational culture and capacity for gender equality.
