May 14, 2026 — Abt Global is piloting distribution of spatial emanators, an innovative vector control tool developed by SC Johnson, across six African countries. This tool is at the center of a recently announced collaboration between SC Johnson, the U.S. Department of State and the Global Fund to scale up deployment of spatial emanators in multiple priority countries.
Through the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative Evolving Vector Control to Fight Malaria Project, or PMI Evolve, Abt supports the planning, implementation, and monitoring of integrated vector control interventions. As part of that work, Abt is working with local governments to introduce spatial emanators in Burkina Faso, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Madagascar, Sierra Leone, and Zambia in 2026.
The new initiative reflects a shared commitment to expanding access to proven, practical tools that can help protect vulnerable communities from malaria. Abt’s role is to help countries incorporate spatial emanators into evidence-based vector control programs alongside insecticide-treated nets and indoor residual spraying. We work closely with national malaria programs and local partners to support effective implementation and strengthen country capacity.
“Introducing new tools is essential to staying ahead of malaria and expanding protection for vulnerable communities,” said Mariandrea Chamorro, Vice President of Foreign Assistance at Abt Global. “Through PMI Evolve, we are helping countries deploy this innovative American-made technology in ways that complement existing interventions and support long-term malaria prevention goals.”
Abt has partnered with the US government on malaria vector control for two decades. Under PMI Evolve, Abt works with governments, research institutions, and community partners to implement safe, cost-effective, and sustainable malaria interventions across sub-Saharan Africa.
