Abt congratulates the United States Government and the Republic of Mozambique on signing a memorandum of understanding that marks an important step in implementing the America First Global Health Strategy. This agreement deepens bilateral cooperation in health and resilience as Mozambique commits to greater domestic spending for stronger health systems and sustained improvements in health outcomes. The new MOU builds on decades of U.S. support in this country with Mozambican partners, including for improved maternal, newborn, and child health and reduced transmission of HIV/AIDS.
Abt is honored to implement one of the U.S. Government’s most successful programs in Mozambique, the Efficiencies for Clinical HIV Outcomes (ECHO) project. Through this work we support the Mozambican Ministry of Health to take on management of HIV testing, treatment, prevention, laboratory services, and data use. This effort contributes directly to national epidemic control capabilities and increasing levels of self-sufficiency.
“As this partnership moves forward, Abt remains committed to supporting the transition to self-reliance for health service delivery,” said Eric Reading, Abt Global’s VP for Government Relations. “We look forward to working with Mozambican health leaders, U.S. Government partners, and other stakeholders to sustain progress toward HIV control and broader health resilience—while shifting to local budgets and oversight.”
