Andrew Alderdice

Abt Global Country Manager, Papua New Guinea

Bio

Andrew Alderdice is an experienced health and human services leader with more than 35 years’ experience across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific. He is currently Abt Global’s Country Manager for Papua New Guinea (PNG).

Andrew’s international development experience spans over two decades. He first worked in Papua New Guinea (PNG) in 1999 through a twinning program with Mount Hagen Hospital, returning from 2001 to 2004 as National Planning Adviser with the Department of Health. He later served as Health Planning and Human Resources Adviser with the Samoan Ministry of Health. In 2016, Andrew returned to PNG as Director of the $27 million DFAT-funded Health & HIV Implementation Service Provider project, and again in 2020 to support program delivery during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Alongside his international work, Andrew has held a wide range of senior leadership roles. He brings more than 25 years of executive experience, including leadership of a private management consulting business in Australia and New Zealand, director of strategy for a regional health service, chief executive officer of a health and aged-care complex and director of a regional community health service.

Andrew’s work includes national policy development, program design and evaluation, and leadership of major initiatives in Indigenous health, maternal and child health, and alcohol and drug strategy. He has led over 100 consulting projects with Abt, Health Outcomes International and privately, with a strong focus on improving outcomes for those experiencing injustice and marginalization. He has had the privilege of working at community level with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples for extended periods. Andrew spent three years at Mutitjulu Health Services (at the base of Uluru) and 12 months at Puntukurnu Aboriginal Medical services, managing the services out of administration.
