Our Communities

Abt’s Community Connections program puts our mission and values into action where we live and work. We donate our time and expertise in service to local community organizations. We mobilize and support our staff to volunteer with organizations they care about. We donate money for disaster relief when emergencies arise.

Over the past year, we continued our long partnerships with several organizations and established new relationships to meet evolving needs.

GIVING RESOURCES THROUGH DONATIONS

Last year Abt directly donated to nearly 20 organizations, from local organizations tackling food insecurity and homelessness to disaster relief organizations enabling recovery from Hurricane Helene and the devastating wildfires in California.

In 2024, Abt Digital Solutions (TSPi, A Division of Abt Global) launched a new Workplace Generosity program through Uncommon Giving. This partnership allows staff to give directly to nonprofits of their choice, and TSPi offers limited matching to extend the team’s collective impact.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE & HUMANITARIAN AID

In September 2024, Hurricane Helene devastated communities across Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, some of them home to our staff. Abt Community Connections matched staff donations—up to $10,000—to organizations like Feeding America that played a vital role in delivering aid and relief to those affected by the disaster.

Our colleagues and their neighbors in Los Angeles faced a series of intense wildfires and destruction in 2024 and 2025. Abt Community Connections matched staff contributions and donated to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation and California Community Foundation Wildfire Recovery Fund.
We also contributed to organizations like World Central Kitchen that are working on the frontlines of global humanitarian crises.

SERVING OUR COMMUNITIES

Community Connections organizes local volunteer opportunities for staff in the places where we work and live. Highlights from this year include:

Bethesda Cares: Abt staff in the Washington, DC area supported Bethesda Cares’ Harvest of Hope homeless program around the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday in November. As a Harvest Sponsor, we collected food and provided volunteer support for homeless populations near our U.S. headquarters.

The Boss Boxing: Our Abt Global Australia team acknowledged National Reconciliation Week in May to support the pathway of reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Our Brisbane-based staff partnered with The Boss Boxing gym, an Aboriginal-owned and operated organization that provides a culturally safe environment and mentorship through boxing and recreational activities. Abt joined The Boss Boxing staff in a yarning circle, a traditional practice among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities that encourages respectful dialogue and collaborative decision-making.

The Children’s Inn at NIH: Every year since 1990, The Children’s Inn at the National Institutes for Health has provided a free place to stay for more than 1,500 families whose children are seriously ill and receiving life-changing pediatric care. Abt staff hosted a meal for families and children staying at The Inn.

Disasters Emergency Committee: Our Abt Great Britain colleagues raised funds in January 2025 through a healthy movement and steps challenge for the Disasters Emergency Committee, a U.K. coalition of leading charities.

Dreaming out Loud: Abt sponsored a spring festival for Dreaming out Loud, which creates economic opportunities for the DC metro region’s communities through healthy food systems.

Linkages to Learning: In December, Abt ran a holiday drive for Linkages to Learning and Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland, collecting holiday gifts and general care items for families in need.

Urban Ministries of Durham: In North Carolina, Urban Ministries of Durham is the city’s primary public shelter, serving three meals a day 365 days a year to anyone in need of food. Several Abt staff volunteer on a routine basis there to serve breakfast and pack lunches.

PRO BONO SUPPORT

We’re proud to continue our partnership with Break Through Tech, an organization empowering undergraduates from diverse backgrounds to launch careers in AI and tech. In 2024, 10 Fellows from their AI Studio program collaborated with us on two high-impact projects:

  • Public Health Innovation: Fellows analyzed National Weather Service data to uncover links between summer respiratory illness spikes and indoor air conditioning use.
  • Criminal Justice Insight: Another team evaluated FBI crime data to assess predictive policing models across communities. Fellows focused on accuracy and transparency, while balancing ethical and operational imperatives.

Guided by Abt’s expert Challenge Leaders, these students brought fresh perspectives and cutting-edge skills, delivering actionable insights that advanced our mission and prepared them for the transition from college to the workplace. This partnership not only drives real-world impact today but also builds the next generation of tech talent. We are excited to welcome a new cohort of 20 AI Fellows in 2025.
